In Memory

Harvey R. Horowitz

Harvey R. Horowitz, 69, was born in Cleveland on March 17, 1949 and passed away on July 3, 2018.

Harvey was the dearly loved brother of Susan "Toody" Horowitz Kamenir Brickenden; loving uncle of Scott Kamenir and adored great-uncle of Owen and Iden Kamenir; dear brother-in-law of Paul Brickenden; dearest companion of Denise Finelli; beloved son of Robert R. and Sylvia B. Horowitz (both deceased); guardian of Lucky the cat.

Harvey attended the Air Force Academy, rose to the rank of captain in the Air Force later becoming an instructor. After separating from the armed forces he became an airline pilot and taught their incoming pilots as well. Harvey was the defender, protector and rescuer of all creatures, great and small.

He was a great friend of many and developed special friendships with many of those he met in AA. Harvey was a volunteer at St. Malachi Parish and helped prepare and serve meals to the homeless there for years. Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 12 at 2:30 PM.

Harvey rests right across the road from my parents at Mayfield Cemetery. WhenI stop and chat with them, I also stop to say "Hello" to Harv.

I have fond memories of Harvey because he was a very nice person and handsome too.  I remember a huge crush I had on Harvey -  think I was in junior high school at the time or possibly even as a 6th grader at Mercer.  I have never forgotten the time when he chased me around the perimeter of his house and I fell into a window well - no kidding!  I had a little dent on the shin of one leg and another dent on the other thigh.  Didn't get hurt beyond that.  Don't think I ever did THAT again!   I'm sure I provoked him into chasing me.  I was boy crazy.  Nadine Eisenberg's father used to call me "B.C.".
